Nanotechnology Reaches Into The Feed Industry

Nanotechnology is taking the world by storm and has recently found its way into the feed industry. Many say this new technology may be the world’s 3rd revolution. Nanotechnology is the leading edge of current technology and scientists working in this field are the people receiving the Nobel prizes for innovation.

Advanced Management Solutions proudly announces the release of MMi into the US market. MMi is a new, patented product developed through the use of nanotechnology and is specifically designed for animal health.  Advanced Management Solutions is already well established in the livestock industry as the distributor of the popular products Mistral and Stall Fresh/Trailer Fresh.

Nanotechnology uses the world’s most advanced molecular technology to improve the physical characteristics of compounds.  The term “Nano” is used to describe microscopic sizes of materials.  A nanometer is a billionth of a meter in size.  To relate to how small this is, a human hair is about 80,000 nanometers in width.

Nanotechnology has already been used to improve a variety of products worldwide, including filtration systems for wastewater, reduction of glare on surfaces and in the development of medical devices.

Specifically, MMI is a feed additive used for moisture management in bulk, mixed and pelleted feeds.  When used as an additive to grains, MMi will significantly reduce moisture, which is the leading cause of the formation of molds, pathogenic bacteria and fungus.  Therefore, the use of MMi produces a safer feed.

MMi is manufactured using the nanoclay called AMADÉITEⓇ, dried yeast cells and diatomaceous earth.  The combination of these ingredients, using the best technology available, brings forward a new era in animal health.

“Our patented process will allow us to use natural products in their smallest form to bring the largest benefit to the animal.”  States Dr. Hervé Demais, Head of Research and Development for Olmix Corporation.  “The ingredients used in MMi are found in many products on the market today, but they are used in their raw form creating limited results.  Using our process of improving the properties of clay through nanotechnology, we can increase the product’s effectiveness in all kinds of feed applications.”

Having gained FDA approval in September of 2006, many companies who have been using MMI in other countries are excited about the entry of the product into the United States.  As John Dinsdale from the UK states, after using the product on his dairy farm, “I can’t afford to take it out”.

There are already so many other products on the market to reduce moisture build up, but MMi is distinctly different.  First, through the use of nanotechnology, MMi has improved the natural adsorbent quality of clay.  To accomplish this, the layers of clay have been separated to dramatically increase the surface area available for adsorption.  Therefore, when compared to competitive products, less MMi will be necessary to obtain better results.

Second, other products attract moisture like a magnet attracts nails.  This moisture then adheres to the surface of the product, so it feels wet to the touch.  Any grains in contact with this wet surface will likely develop molds, pathogenic bacteria or fungus.  In contrast, MMi encompasses the moisture between the layers of clay sealing the wet from the touch.  MMi feels dry, so every kernel of grain is dry.

Olmix, the company that developed MMi, was founded in 1995 and is owned and operated by people who are also farmers.  The company has always hired people in the industry who not only have scientific ingenuity, but also practical farm experience. Olmix maintains offices in more than 50 countries throughout the world and is dedicated to making products they want to use on their own farms.

Over the years, Olmix has won a long list of awards, with the most recent being:

  1. TOP THREE BEST PRODUCTS OF 2006 International Agriculture Show.
  2. Selection by the 2005 International Animal Health Congress as a TOP PRODUCT.
  3. 2003 “PRODUCT OF THE YEAR” at the World Pork Expo.
